B.Grimm is a multi-business corporation active in the fields of energy, building and industrial systems, healthcare, lifestyle, transport and real estate. The company was established in 1878, when German pharmacist Bernhard Grimm and Austrian merchant Erwin Mueller started a pharmacy shop: the Siam Dispensary afterwards called apothecary B.Grimm. King Rama V appointed B.Grimm to be the official pharmacist to the Royal Family and granted the company with the “Dra Arm”, which was later changed to today’s “Garuda” emblem. Apart from being one of the first for making modern medicines in the Kingdom and operating one of the first department stores, the company was also one of the first to dig canals for irrigation in Rangsit, which during that time became the largest irrigation system in Southeast Asia. B.Grimm was among the first telegraph concessionaires, installed the first telephone line between Germany and Siam, and ventured into Thailand’s private power generation industry as one of its pioneers. Business Areas B.Grimm’s fastest growing business is in energy with B.Grimm Power as one of Thailand’s leading private power companies. B.Grimm Power currently operates gas-fired and heavy diesel plants across Thailand and Vietnam with a combined power generating capacity of 1,134 megawatts. The company is in the process of constructing its first hydro power plant as well as solar and wind farms and seeks investment opportunities in Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan. By 2019, B.Grimm Power plans to have over 3,000 megawatts in operation and obtain further licenses to reach a total of 5,000 megawatts. Apart from power generation and distribution, B.Grimm also supplies energy equipment for industries and buildings through B.Grimm Trading Corporation, while Hamon B.Grimm builds cooling towers for power plants and the joint venture partner KSB provides pumps for energy related industries. In a bid to limit the emission of greenhouse gases, B.Grimm has also expanded into the bio-fuels industry and now operates one of the first biodiesel plants in Thailand under B.Grimm Green Power. In its second biggest business sector, B.Grimm improves the comfort and energy-efficiency in homes, offices and factories with air conditioning systems from Carrier, manufactured by B.Grimm Air Conditioning, as well as Beijer B.Grimm as the leading Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Parts wholesalers in Thailand and Malaysian-based refrigeration wholesale company RNA Engineering & Trading. B.Grimm has also expanded its business through an investment with United Technologies (UTC) in the building security systems company “Chubb Direct” and started with the distribution of air conditioning products from UTC’s Chinese partner “Midea”. In the domestic healthcare sector, B.Grimm has joint ventures with global healthcare companies such as Merck, Maquet, Siemens, and Carl Zeiss. In its transport business, B.Grimm, together with Siemens, supplied turnkey systems and services to Bangkok’s BTS sky train and MRT subway and performed as the consortium leader in the development of the 28 km Airport Rail Link. We have also invested 5 billion Baht in four new Japanese-built bulk carriers. In the real estate sector, B.Grimm is renowned for its two high-rise office buildings in prime locations: Alma Link Building and Dr. Gerhard Link Building. The company also operates warehouses and purchased the ancestral home and original pharmacy of Mr. Harald Link’s greatgrandfather in Luebeck, Germany, which was also visited by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Through LBG Limited, B.Grimm caters to a lifestyle of natural elegance with prestigious brands such as Burberry, La Martina, Provence restaurants, Paris Spa, Valmont, Terrake, Thalgo, and J.F. Lazartigue. The company invested in the porcelain “Nymphenburg” of the Royal Family of Bavaria together with them and started to distribute products from the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. Social Engagement Throughout its history, B.Grimm has always put great efforts in supporting livelihood, education, equestrian, culture, religion, and environment. Vocational education is supported in the Chitralada Vocational School as well as in B.Grimm’s factories and power plants by way of the dual vocational system. Furthermore, the company is a key sponsor of the Little Scientists’ House project. Since its early days, B.Grimm has supported Buddhism in Thailand through regular donations to temples, most notably Wat Patumwanaram, Wat Tat Thong (Bangkok), Wat Kien Keeth and Wat Moon Chindaram in Patumtani, supports the local Muslim community and mosques around its head office building and gives donations to Christian churches. Recently, B.Grimm has also started to support Buddhism through the Mind & Life Institute, the Rangjung Yeshe Institute in Bhutan, the Bhutan Youth Development Foundation, and the Bhutan Foundation. In the company’s power plants, B.Grimm seeks to save energy together with its customers and tightly controls air and wastewater quality as well as noise levels in order to ensure a good quality of life for all neighbours and surrounding communities. B.Grimm initiated a massive reforestation project, raises awareness for the environment through environmental camps with schools, and is one of the key supporters for the wildlife conversation program of the World-Wide Life Fund (WWF) across Thailand and Malaysia. B.Grimm is an active benefactor of many arts and cultural events in Thailand and above all a supporter of classical music as a major patron of the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (BSO), sponsor of Bangkok’s International Festival of Dance and Music and of classical music events of D&M Music Studio.
